Winter Getaway

Life has been pretty busy lately. The particular season we’re in seems to have us moving at a pretty brisk pace. The husband’s work has been short staffed for awhile which has meant a lot of overtime hours (unpaid – one of the perks of running your own business) and late nights. I’m finding myself working more at night’s too. S is drawn to screens (laptop, phone and TV) like a moth to a flame so it’s impossible to get any work done when she’s not napping.

Regardless, in the middle of the craziness we managed to get away for 5 days. We’d actually had this on the cards for awhile and it was meant to be a planned catch up with some friends who moved to Dunedin. Unfortunately, they didn’t make it up as long as initially planned due to hand foot and mouth disease. But they came for an overnight stay and it was great to catch up even if it was brief.

It was also nice to have some much needed family time. It’s impossible for us to truly relax at home because there’s always something to be done. Home ownership is a blessing but sometimes I need to escape it for awhile!

The weather didn’t totally play ball while we were away, but we got outside and saw some sun (and wind and rain) and even made it up the ski field for some tobogganing – before we got told off because it was too dangerous to toboggan.

Twizel adventures. Also a good opportunity to pick up some supplies from the nearest “supermarket”.

My favourite people.

She loves swings. I think all babies must love swings. M still does. It’s good because we can go to playgrounds now and she has something to do!

I brought the camera out and we got some pretty cute shots.

Me? Throw stones? NEVER!

Sneakily moving her way back to the stones so she can try to eat them…

Walking round the village with M.

Lakeside rock throwing with L.

Cold, but it’s not a bad view!

Down at the little lake for more stick throwing fun.

Snow!

Just checking to make sure all is in order.

Adult supervision required.

Someone fell asleep in the car on the way up but woke in time for a brief foray into the snow.

We’re hoping to get away one more time before the end of the year. With all the overtime the husband has been doing he will hopefully be able to transfer that into time off. M wants a 10 day holiday this time, I’m not sure we’ll be able to achieve quite that many days off but even a quick break will be nice!!
